Ford unveils $4-billion transit plan

Mayoral hopeful Rob Ford has unveiled his plans to ease gridlock in Toronto and they don’t include new taxes or road tolls.
The mayoral candidate said if he’s elected he would scrap the Transit City streetcar expansion plan and instead spend $4-billion over five years on new subway cars.
He would extend the Sheppard line from Downsview Station to the Scarborough Town Centre and also replace the Scarborough LRT by extending the Bloor-Danforth line.
“My plan will create a closed loop that will make it much easier to move rapidly across the city,” Ford said. “Those lines will be completed and open before the Pan Am Games in 2015.”
He’s also committed to spending $700-million over four years on road repairs and construction and $55-million over four years on 100 kilometres of off-road bicycle paths and walking trails along rail and hydro corridors.
