Pick-up truck driver charged in death of woman found on Ajax road

A man is facing several charges in connection with the death of a woman who was found lying in the middle of a road in Ajax last week.

On Sept. 20, Durham Regional Police officers were called to the area of Kingston Road and Harwood Avenue around 5 a.m. for reports of someone lying on the roadway.

Police found a 57-year-old woman at the scene suffering from severe head trauma. She was rushed to hospital and was later pronounced dead.

Investigators looked over surveillance footage from the area and were able to identify a white Dodge pick-up truck as a suspect vehicle. Police say the suspect was travelling northbound on Harwood when he turned into a plaza near Kingston Road and struck a woman on the road.

The suspect fled the area.

Police say Ajax resident James Patton, 56, is facing four charges including careless driving causing death, leaving the scene of an accident and driving with a suspended license.

Anyone with additional information is being asked to contact police.
