Special weather statement issued for gusty winds across the GTA

Stella Acquisto breaks down the seven-day forecast ahead of the holidays as gusty winds are set to sweep in for parts of the GTA.

A special weather statement has been issued for Toronto and the rest of the GTA as high winds are expected to blow through the region.

Environment Canada says northwesterly winds gusting up to 70 km/h will start Tuesday evening and continue overnight with some isolated gusts of 80 km/hr.

Power outages are possible due to the high winds. The winds will taper off by early Wednesday morning.

It comes after mixed precipitation and up to five centimetres of snow fell in Toronto overnight leading to a messy commute this morning.

It will be mainly cloudy for the rest of Tuesday with a high of 5 C.

Clear on Christmas Day

Following the high winds, Christmas Day will see cloudy skies and average temperatures so that means no white Christmas for the GTA.

Christmas Eve will see a mix of sun and cloud with a high of -1 C and a low of -4 C while Christmas Day on Thursday will be cloudy and a high of 2 C, dropping to -9 C overnight.

The next round of potential precipitation will be on Boxing Day when there is a risk of freezing rain and some flurries.
