Police in Durham Region are searching for a suspect after a 23-year-old man died following a fight outside a Tim Hortons in Oshawa.
Investigators say they were called just after 8 p.m. Saturday about reports of an armed person in the area of Simcoe Street North and Winchester Road East. When they arrived, they found a man suffering from “traumatic injuries.” He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say two groups of men engaged in a physical altercation outside the restaurant located at 2700 Simcoe Street North.
“During that altercation, the victim suffered fatal injuries,” police said in a statement issued Sunday. “The suspect and several other males fled on foot south and east of the Tim Horton’s.”
“An extensive search, with the assistance of Air1 and the DRPS K9 Unit, was conducted; however, the suspects were not located,” police added.
Investigators believe this is an isolated incident, and are asking anyone who was near 2700 Simcoe Street North between 7:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. and may have footage of the incident to contact authorities.
This is Durham Region’s third homicide of the year.
