Toronto under heat warning as 37 C temperatures to slam the city, GTA

A yellow heat warning is in effect for Toronto and surrounding areas as temperatures will hit 37 C Tuesday and continue through the week.
Temperatures are expected to reach 32 C on Monday, feeling closer to 38 with the humdiex while Tuesday is expected to be the peak of the heat wave with the humidex making it feel like 47.
Overnight lows are expected to be between 20 and 24 C.
“Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and can result in the Air Quality Health Index approaching the high-risk category,” ead an Environment Canada notice.
“Take action to protect yourself and others – extreme heat can affect everyone’s health,” it added.
The heat warning has been issued for Toronto, Pickering, Oshawa, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham, Peel, Halton, Hamilton and Niagara.
“Watch for the early signs of heat exhaustion in yourself and others,” officials added. “Signs may include headache, nausea, dizziness, thirst, dark urine and intense fatigue. Stop your activity and drink water.”
How the City of Toronto is responding
The City of Toronto says its Heat Relief Strategy is in effect. Officials are monitoring conditions around the clock and coordinating public services.
Four mobile water trailers will be available starting at noon on Monday, July 13, offering water fountains and bottle filling stations at:
- Nathan Philips Square
- Mel Lastman Square
- East York Civic Centre
- Barbara Hall Park
They will remain at those locations until the heat warning is lifted, except for the mobile water station at Nathan Philips Square, which will remain in place throughout the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Cool spaces at Scarborough, Etobicoke, York and East York Civic Centres will be open from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., as well as Metro Hall.
North York Civic Centre will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
A 24-hour Cool Space will be provided at 136 Spadina Rd. starting at noon on Monday, July 13 and will remain in place throughout the Heat Warning.
More than 170 splash pads will operate daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and 84 wading pools will be open with various hours.
57 outdoor pools are open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with eight pools offering extended operating hours until 11:45 p.m., throughout the heat warning, including:

- Alex Duff Pool, 779 Crawford St.
- Giovanni Caboto Pool, 1367 St. Clair Ave. W.
- Heron Park Pool, 292 Manse Rd.
- McGregor Park Pool, 2231 Lawrence Ave. E.
- Monarch Park Pool, 115 Felstead Ave.
- North Toronto Memorial, 200 Eglinton Ave.
- Smithfield Park Pool, 175 Mount Olive Dr.
