Crews battle fire at Oshawa seniors’ home

Firefighters were called to a seniors’ home in Oshawa on Wednesday morning after a fire broke out on the sixth floor.

The first six floors of the Faith Place Retirement Home, near Highway 2 and Simcoe Street, were evacuated and residents took shelter on city buses.

No injuries have been reported and police said the damage appears to be contained to one unit.

It’s not yet known how the fire began. Fire fighters arrived around 6:15 a.m. and the blaze was out around 7:30 a.m.

The building has 10 floors but the upper floors were not evacuated, police said.
