A review of Toronto’s red light cameras reveals when and where drivers are most likely to get caught running a red light.
According to the Toronto Star, drivers are most likely to be photographed on a Wednesday morning at around 8:45 a.m. at one of the following five intersections:
- Bayview and Cummer avenues
- Bayview Avenue and Truman Road
- Warden and McNicoll avenues
- Lake Shore Boulevard West and Windermere Avenue
- Albion Road and Silverstone Drive
The Star looked at red light camera data from January 2012 to June, 6, 2013 — information obtained through a Freedom of Information request.
During that time period, 48,512 tickets were issued for red light runners, raising more than $11 million for the city.
The set fine for going through a red light is $325, but drivers don’t receive demerit points.
However, the Star learned that nearly one-third of drivers who were issued tickets for running a red light had their fines reduced after challenging it in court.
