A teenager has been charged with attempted murder after a violent carjacking in the city’s east end.
Toronto Police say the accused allegedly stabbed a 66-year-old man multiple times and then fled in the victim’s car.
The victim was found in the hallway of an apartment complex at 1 Eccleston Dr. around 7:15pm on Tuesday.
He was rushed to hospital with injuries considered serious but not life-threatening.
“It was pretty gruesome from the blood in the building. Outside the front door there was quite a lot of (blood),” said resident Paul McNeil.
The teen allegedly crashed into a tree as he attempted to drive away and then fled on foot.
The 17-year-old, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was arrested hours after the alleged attack. He has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, robbery, possession of property obtained by crime, dangerous operation, and fail to comply recognizance.
“I think everybody involved needs help,” the teen’s lawyer, Moishe Reiter, said on Wednesday. “That’s my impression at this point. But it’s early and I don’t have a great deal of information yet.
The accused appeared briefly in court on Wednesday.
