About Catherine
“Listen to this.” My father turned up the car radio, which, as always, was tuned to 680 NEWS. “THIS is what you should be doing.” I was studying broadcasting in college with a goal of becoming a rock DJ. It would take about 8 years before I realized, he was right.
My journey to 680 NEWS started with a love of music radio, then an interest in music documentaries, before a summer job as news anchor for the college FM station in Kitchener opened the door to the world of radio journalism. I moved to Toronto where I briefly worked as a receptionist and film production assistant until I got my first radio job - part-time audio editor at the Canadian Press.
Some CP colleagues were leaving to start up a newsroom at a new AM news/talk station and gave me my first on-air opportunity. Four years later I was ready to make the jump to the country’s biggest radio newsroom - 680 NEWS.
I have been at 680 NEWS since 2008. Since then I’ve moved a few times (from Toronto to Hamilton and back again), had 3 kids, adopted some cats, and been fortunate enough to learn from the best in the business. I now deliver breaking news with longtime 680 NEWS anchor Paul Cook every weekday morning from 5:30 to 9:30.
Few people are lucky enough to say they are doing what they were born to do. I am one of them.
Thanks for listening.
