Young Offender Arrested In Rock Throwing Incident That Scarred Teacher’s Face

They weren’t sure why it happened or who did it. But police now have a suspect in a shocking incident that took place last January above the 401 in Oshawa.

 

And he’s only 14 years old.

 

The case became infamous across the G.T.A.

 

Nadia McLean, a 28-year-old teacher, had just picked up her brother and three friends from a wedding and was driving them home at 2am  when the unthinkable happened.

 

Someone threw a two and a half pound rock from the Albert St. overpass and it smashed her windshield like a bullet, hitting the driver’s side and knocking her unconscious.

 

The damage to her face was extensive and horrifying – including ripping off her right cheek.

 

Cops vowed to find the person who dropped the projectile and the investigation took months. But they claim they have enough evidence to implicate the youngster.

 

McLean’s visage still bears the evidence of her near fatal encounter with the boulder. But she admits she’s relieved that an arrest has finally been made in her case.

She admits she has mixed emotions to hear the person charged is someone so young.

“I was hoping that in a way that it wouldn’t be somebody who was still, you know, developing himself as a person, but in a sense it could be a good thing because he might be able to change. But it did somewhat bother me that it was a younger child in the sense that it’s more scary.”

The victim doesn’t remember a lot from that night – just flashes of a shadowy figure standing on a bridge in the early morning gloom. She’s already been forced to endure several operations and more are still to come.

And the educator expresses the nagging fear that the youngster charged could have been in one of her classes.

“It has affected my life and I hope that he really, really reflects on this and actually does regret it, because that’s how we move on and get better as people.”

McLean was planning to get married on July 15 ^th and despite fears she’d have to postpone her wedding, the date is still a go.  

“Everybody keeps telling me, well, aren’t you angry? Aren’t you this? I honestly don’t feel anger. I don’t feel depressed. I don’t feel sad. I’m just happy to still be alive.”

There’s no word on the motive for the senseless crime or what led cops to the youngster. But tips from witnesses on the busy highway that morning played a major role. It’s also not clear what a 14-year-old boy was doing outside at two o’clock in the morning.

 

He’s facing five counts of mischief endangering life and one of aggravated assault.
