Glen Abbey redevelopment delayed at least a year

It will be at least a year before the greens of the Glen Abbey Golf course in Oakville are dug up for a new subdivision.
Town council has voted unanimously to pass an interim control bylaw to restrict any redevelopment of the property for one year.
The thinking being the town will be able to use the time to conduct some planning studies.
“Any project of a significant size and scope which could alter Oakville’s existing planned approach in our Livable Oakville Official Plan needs careful study and analysis,” said Mayor Rob Burton in a statement on Tuesday.
The owner of the course wants to build about 3,000 homes as well as commercial and office space.
Glen Abbey has hosted the Canadian Open golf tournament 27 times, including the 2015 tournament, which was won by Jason Day. It was designed by Jack Nicklaus in 1976 and is home to the Royal Canadian Golf Association and Canadian Golf Hall of Fame.
