Peel police have charged a suspect with first-degree murder after a man was fatally struck by a pickup truck in Brampton early Sunday morning.
Officers responded to a call for a pedestrian struck by a vehicle at a plaza in the Tobram Road and Peter Robertson Boulevard area at around 1:45 a.m.
The victim, a 34-year-old man from Caledon, was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead
Police initially deemed the incident “suspicious” but later Sunday announced that they’d charged 38-year-old Avtar Dhammi, of Brampton, with first-degree murder.
Dhammi made a court appearance on Sunday and is being held in custody.
Police tell CityNews the suspect and victim knew each other, and that Dhammi was arrested at the scene.
