Two more people recovering from suspected overdoses in Saskatoon

By The Canadian Press

SASKATOON – Two more people have overdosed in a Saskatchewan city where police have asked people to turn in their cocaine because of three drug deaths in less than a week.

Saskatoon police fear cocaine laced with fentanyl is circulating and say there have been at least eight overdoses in the city in recent days.

The two most recent, involving a man and a woman, happened at the same home on Wednesday.

The two were taken to hospital, but their conditions weren’t known.

Police aren’t sure whether the latest two overdoses are connected to six that occurred on the weekend.

Earlier this week, police said they had charged three men, all from out of province.

The arrests came after investigators took the unusual step of releasing the street name and phone number of an alleged drug dealer in the hope of preventing further deaths.

Police spokeswoman Kelsie Fraser said officers are still mulling manslaughter or murder charges.

“The file is still being investigated,” she said Thursday.

Fraser said she couldn’t update the condition of the other three people who overdosed on the weekend.

Police are still urging anyone who may have purchased cocaine from a dealer named “Lil Joe” or “Joe Bro” to hand the drug over to authorities. They say no charges will be laid.
