Mother And Child Injured In Trailer Accident
A 29-year-old mother and her one-year-old daughter were sent to hospital after they were hit by a trailer that detached from a pickup truck in Markham.
It happened just after 9:30am Wednesday on John Street near Bayview. Police say an open, flat-deck trailer broke away from a red Chevy pickup, went off the road and hit the woman while she was pushing her child in a stroller on the sidewalk.
The mother was critically injured and authorities say because the child was in a stroller she only suffered minor injuries.
The 24-year-old man driving the truck wasn’t hurt.
Police are appealing for witnesses as they continue their investigation. If you saw what happened, call York Regional Police at 1-866-876-5423 ext 7703 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

An investigation launched by the City of Toronto Municipal Licensing Standards branch resulted in the arrests of the three people.
Police say the trio was certified as municipal law enforcement officers who were responsible for enforcing parking by-laws on private property. It’s also alleged they didn’t have the proper authority to tow away the cars.
