Vicente Padilla struck out a season high 10 batters to lead the Texas Rangers to a commanding 9-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday night.
The Rangers also put on a display of power, spanking four homers and four doubles. It was a breakthrough outing for Texas, who had scored only 21 runs in their previous nine games, an uncharacteristic slump for a team which hit 260 homers in 2005, second in major league history.
Ian Kinsler had a hot bat, recording three hits, including a homer. Hank Blalock, Michael Young and Rod Barajas also homered for Texas.
Padilla pitched for 6 2-3 innings, giving up just three hits.
The game marked the 16th time the Ranges have bested the Jays in their last 20 meetings.
Frank Catalanotto homered for Toronto while starter Casey Janssen allowed five runs and seven hits in 3 1-3 innings.
