Researchers in Japan have developed an odour recorder that analyzes smells through 15 sensors and then digitally records the chemical composition.
The recorder, developed at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, can produce smells by mixing more than 90 chemicals and vaporizes the results.
But you may have to wait a few years before you can sniff your favourite TV chef’s creations in your living room. Currently the device is too large for portable use, but researchers are hoping to shrink it down to a micro-chip that could be placed in cell phone along with a camera.
Hopefully the creators of this technology are kind enough to omit some smells from the catalogue when it’s finally perfected for TV.
