Peel Police are still searching for a suspect in the vicious sexual assault of a woman in an underground garage in Mississauga early Saturday.
It happened around 4am in an apartment building at 1300 Mississauga Valley Boulevard. Authorities say a 34-year-old woman got out of her car in the underground garage of the building and entered a secure area inside when she was attacked.
The incident was caught on security video and police are hoping that will lead to an arrest.
In the meantime, those who use the garage are on edge.
Sadia Saleem used to leave for work at around the same time the attack took place.
“Nobody else would be here. Sometimes I would ask my husband walk me down. But since I heard this, I would never come down this early. It’s very dangerous,” she said.
The victim was beaten and sexually assaulted, but managed to break free of her attacker, who’s described as:
- White
- 30 to 35-years-old
- Around 5’10” with a stocky build
- Very fair skinned, with a round face and bulging eyes.
Police say he has short, reddish-brown receding hair and that he was clean-shaven with possible sideburns. He was wearing blue jeans, a short sleeved blue shirt with light coloured stripes with a white undershirt and black shoes.
Security cameras captured images of the alleged attacker (pictured) and detectives are asking anyone who may have information to call them at (905) 453-2121 ext.3460 or Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
Police are advising women to be extra cautious and have provided some parking garage safety tips:
- Pay attention to your surroundings especially as you enter or exit the garage whether on foot or in your vehicle.
- Take notice of people who loiter near an entrance or in the garage itself.
- Have your keys in hand so you do not have to linger before entering your car or building.
- View the interior of your vehicle before entering to ensure that no one is hiding inside, even if the doors were locked.
- Always lock your car after entering and when leaving it.
- Watch for people who use the ramp to enter the garage on foot once you have cleared the opening.
Building Security
- Never open a locked or access-controlled door for a stranger.
- Always make sure that a door latches properly after you have exited it.
- Never prop open doors.
