After dropping five of their last seven games, it’s clear that the Toronto Argonauts are in dire need of a shake up.
But G.M. Adam Rita isn’t ready to dismantle the team, despite the fact that they’ve lost their last two games by a combined score of 59-15 and have the second-worst record in the CFL.
“I believe in our head coach (Pinball Clemons) and that he will make the decisions that are best for our team,” Rita said Friday following Toronto’s dismal 31-7 loss in Montreal. “Then we’ll move on from there.”
Contributing to an already troublesome situation is the rash of injuries that have befallen the Boatmen. A total of 14 players were unavailable for Thursday’s game against the Als.
“It is what it is, but it seems to have been just one (injury) after another and we’ve had a difficult time coping with it, it hasn’t got any better,” Rita said. “But our best guys are the guys who are playing and if we think otherwise and listen to all this other crap, then we won’t have a chance.
“It’s frustrating for our fans, our owners, everyone involved. It affects everybody. But we will rally and we should relish it.
“We’re mostly a veteran team and that has gone through a lot of adversity from 2003 (when CFL was forced to operate an Argos club teetering on the brink of financial collapse) to right now. We have to weather the storm and put our shoulders to the wheel and start pushing.”
Clemons wasn’t about to use Damon Allen’s nagging finger injury as an excuse for the team’s woes.
“Offensively we have to find some answers whether Damon plays or not,” Clemons said. “I’ve never seen a team with this many challenges in a season but we have to get ourselves healthy and not make excuses.”
