Foo Fighters Front Man Grohl To Take Aussie Miners For A Beer

Foo Fighters front man and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl said he’s going to hook up with two miners who listened to the band while they were trapped underground for two weeks this past spring.

Brant Webb, 37, and Todd Russell, 34, were trapped when the mine they were working in at Beaconsfield, in Australia’s southern Tasmania state, collapsed. As rescue crews dug the escape tunnel they handed the pair music players and Webb requested tracks by the Foo Fighters.

When Grohl found out his music helped the trapped miner get through his underground ordeal, he sent him a message of support and offered to send Webb and Russell to the U.S. so he could buy them a beer.

The trip around the world never happened, but Grohl has said he wants to meet the pair for some brews when his band stops Down Under in October as part of their tour.

“You know what? I’m not just having one beer with those dudes — we’re going for it,” Grohl told Australian Broadcasting Corp. radio Thursday. “This is going to be a big night.”

The two miners haven’t released a comment, but their spokesman Sean Anderson said they’d probably take the singer up on his offer.

“I’m sure they will be very keen to meet him,” he said. “Brant’s the big fan (of Grohl), whereas Todd’s more into his country and western stuff.”
