Miller And Pitfield Engage In Heated Debate

It was a night of great rivalries in Toronto Monday night.   The Jays took on the dreaded New York Yankees, the Leafs were back in action against the Buffalo Sabres, and mayoral candidates David Miller and Jane Pitfield engaged in a somewhat heated debate at the University of Toronto.

And while the Jays and Leafs drew thousands of fans, 350 die hard political aficionados witnessed the verbal sparring.

The two clashed on issues ranging from homelessness, garbage disposal and gun violence to the TTC strike in May.

“After the wildcat strike, which I learned from the union was actually caused by interference by chair Moscoe and Mayor Miller, I would make the T.T.C. an essential service,” vowed Pitfield, who did her best to put Miller on the defensive.

“I was amused by your remark, Councillor Pitfield,” responded Miller.   “Blaming me for the strike, because the day after the strike you said in the press that I should have intervened to stop it.”

Miller and Pitfield are the leading contenders among no fewer than 30 candidates for mayor.

Voting day is Monday, November 13th.
