Police Seek Public’s Help In Solving City’s Latest Murder

Cheng’s lifeless body was found in the boiler room of an apartment building at 40 Craigton Dr., in the Pharmacy and Eglinton area, at about 9:30am Tuesday after police were dispatched to the location. His family owns the building and the father of two teens managed it.

There are still very few details being released about the crime, except that it was obvious Cheng had suffered trauma to his head and body.

An autopsy was to be conducted Thursday.

“The investigation is still ongoing,” said Det. Wayne Fowler of Toronto Police Homicide Squad. “The building is being canvassed and we’re in the area looking for any video surveillance equipment that may have captured people in the area.”

Fowler said that the victim had held two jobs to support his family, and that one of them involved managing an apartment building.

The last known contact he had with anyone was on Monday evening at about 5pm when he spoke with a family member.

There’s no word on suspects or a motive at this point, and authorities haven’t said how many people they might be looking for.

Police also asked anyone who saw Cheng’s vehicle, a 2005 silver Dodge Caravan, to call them. The minivan was located behind the address where Cheng’s body was found.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Toronto Police Homicide Squad at 416-808-7400 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
