A Bum Steer

Yep, there’s no doubt this GPS technology stuff is great, but there are times when you shouldn’t listen to the machine and you should trust your own instincts.

A 53-year-old German driver discovered that on Sunday, after he followed the commands of his car’s guidance system to “Turn right now!”

But when he did, he was actually 30 metres from where the real turning point was and he wound up smashing through a construction site, heading up a stairway and colliding headfirst into a portable toilet.

The accident, in the small town of Rudolstadt, caused over $2,800 in damage to the stairway, but somehow the inattentive driver escaped with just $141 damage to his car and no physical injury. The fine for this off road adventure? About 50 bucks.

Which just goes to prove that listening to your computer can sometimes steer your wrong. Now that’s what we call a hard drive.
