Advanced Polls Project Weak Turnout For Municipal Election

It’s yet to be seen whether Torontonians will have a poor showing at the polls come next Monday’s municipal election, but if the advanced voting Saturday is any indication, things don’t look so great.
Compared with the last election, in which David Miller was voted Mayor, advanced voting is down from 11,000 at this point to just 8,000.
So how can this dip be explained?
“Sometimes people haven’t made up their mind at that particular time as to who they’re actually going to vote for,” said Greg Essensa, Director of Elections and Registry Services.
But there could be another reason.
In the last election, there were five main candidates and no shortage of contentious issues. This time around, some say that’s not so much the case.
“A lot of people believe municipal politicians don’t have much power to really get things done,” said Ward 5 resident Peter Thomas.
Advance polling stations will be open all day Sunday from 10-6 p.m. and don’t worry; you don’t need to bring in your voter registration card.
Here’s what you do need to know:
