The Boston Bruins won their third straight game with an overtime victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday night.
Patrice Bergeron scored just 34 seconds into the extra frame to lift the boys from Beantown to a 2-1 win over the Buds.
“We are getting the results now,” Bergeron said. “There is a thin line between winning and losing and when you do the right things, you are on the right side of that line.”
Bergeron picked up a rebound off Brad Boyes’ point shot and easily put the frozen disc past a sprawling Jean-Sebastien Aubin, who started in favour of injured former Bruin Andrew Raycroft.
Bergeron is proving himself to be quite adept at the shootout. He scored the lone shootout goal in Boston’s 3-2 victory at Washington on Wednesday.
Phil Kessel put Boston up 1-0 in the first period before Bryan McCabe tied things up at 1-1 on the power play when he beat Tim Thomas with a slap shot through the legs with just 6:42 to go in regulation time.
“It’s starting to come together,” Bruins coach Dave Lewis said. “Tim is playing with a ton of confidence and the guys are starting to feel comfortable with each other.”
“It is very easy to get frustrated when things aren’t going well,” added captain Zdeno Chara said. “But it’s getting better compared to how we were playing before.”
Aubin made 34 saves for the Buds, who had a four-game winning streak snapped.
“Sometimes you leave it all in practice,” Maple Leafs coach Paul Maurice said. “We didn’t skate the way I thought we would.”
