The accident happened in the southbound lanes near Major Mackenzie Drive around 7am. A 20-year-old female passenger was ejected from the car and authorities believe it’s because she didn’t buckle up.
“We are reminding occupants and drivers and anyone in a vehicle travelling on the highways or any roads for that matter to please buckle up and wear your seat belt,” Const. Robin Singh of the Aurora OPP said.
“This is a tragic incident that has happened here. A young lady, 20-years-old has been ejected. She is in serious condition. Of course wearing her seat belt could have and may have saved her from serious injuries.”
While the woman’s injuries are serious, they aren’t considered to be life-threatening. Another person was taken to hospital and a third person suffered some cuts and bruises, but wasn’t taken to hospital.
Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, sending it rolling into a grassy ditch at the side of the highway.
So far no charges have been laid.
