Raptors Don’t Want To Disturb Chemistry With Trade

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

That seems to be the attitude the Toronto Raptors are taking as Thursday’s 3pm trade deadline looms.

Toronto has climbed to the top of the Atlantic Division after playing inspired, passionate basketball, so altering the team’s delicate chemistry doesn’t seem to be high on the agenda.

GM Bryan Colangelo admitted, however, that he’s going through the motions.

“The normal conversations are taking place as the deadline approaches. . . circling back on some old discussions and a few new things that always spring up,” Colangelo said Wednesday. “There is certainly nothing imminent at this time and in all likelihood we will stay put.”

One player who has garnered a fair share of interest is Morris Peterson.

“I haven’t really thought about the trade deadline, I’ve just thought about trying to help this team in the second half of the season,” he said earlier in the week. “My mindset is on this team.”

And while the Raptors will likely remain fairly quiet on the trade front, there are rumours of big trades that could affect them.

Atlantic Division rivals, the New Jersey Nets, are at the centre of one such rumour, with former Raptor Vince Carter and/or Jason Kidd possibly being shipped.

“Whether or not any major deals get done remains to be seen, but this year more than usual there are some fairly high profile names being offered or discussed,” said Colangelo. “A few rumoured deals might even affect the Eastern Conference playoff race.”
