Elizabeth Taylor Celebrates 75th Birthday

Acting legend Elizabeth Taylor looked every bit the movie star as she celebrated her 75th birthday Tuesday.

Wheeled into a Las Vegas-area resort wearing diamonds and fur, Taylor was escorted to a lavish party in her honour by her 52-year-old son Christopher Wilding. He happens to share the same birthday.

The Hollywood icon arrived more than two hours late for her own shindig – plane delays were blamed for the tardiness.

Smiling as photographers and party guests sang Happy Birthday, Taylor said the secret to her longevity was, “Hangin’ in.”

About 75 people attended the event, which featured a dinner of jambalaya, prime rib, collard greens, sweet potatoes, and cake.

Celebrity attendees included Debbie Reynolds and her daughter Carrie Fisher, magicians Siegfried and Roy, and model Kathy Ireland.

Pop star Michael Jackson didn’t attend, which Taylor said she wasn’t surprised by. Though the singer now lives in Las Vegas, the Oscar winner said she didn’t expect him to attend. The pair are close friends and she reportedly spoke with him earlier in the day.

Taylor’s other children Michael Wilding, 54, Elizabeth “Liza” Todd, 49, and Maria Burton, 45, were also at the event.

Taylor, who denies reports that she’s very ill or is being treated for Alzheimer’s disease, starred in more than 50 films including Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Butterfield 8, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? She won Oscars for the latter two films.
