Quick-Thinking Security Guard Saves Man From Freezing Waters

A young man is fortunate to be alive after he fell through the ice into frigid Lake Ontario early Wednesday.

He has a quick-thinking security guard to thank after the man came to his rescue at the foot of Jarvis St. and the Queen’s Quay at about 2am.

It’s believed the man had been drinking and stumbled off a pier onto the ice. But the frozen layer wasn’t strong enough to hold him and he fell through into the icy waters. The security guard said it all happened in a matter of minutes.

“By the time I put on my coat and everything he was making a dash,” the heroic guard, identified only as Ambrose, said. “He was screaming, ‘Get me out of here!’ I said, ‘Wait, wait, just stay calm.'”

Once the victim was helped out of the water, he was wrapped in a blanket and brought to an attending ambulance. He was looked over in hospital and then released.
