Excerpts From Cho Video Do Little to Illuminate Motive

For days, the world wailed and wondered: what was Cho Seung-Hui’s motive for the deadly Virginia Tech rampage that took 33 lives?
When the package he mailed between killings arrived at NBC on Wednesday, some of those questions appeared to be answered.
But there’s no way of contemplating the real reason behind what drove the mass murderer. Because there’s no real way to understand total madness.
The 23-page, 1,800-word written statement that accompanied the videos and the photos he sent the American news outlet is said to be extremely disturbing, filled with expletives, crammed with bizarre writing and in some cases completely incomprehensible.
His final package is further testimony to how well planned his attack was.
Time stamps on the video show he spent at least six days assembling the presentation he would mail off to New York after murdering two students in a dorm but before heading to his final bloody destiny at a classroom building.
There are many religious references, and in some instances he appears to compare himself to Jesus Christ. Yet he also rails against Christianity.
And there are mentions of President Bush and John Mark Karr, who created a sensation when he falsely confessed to the murder of JonBenet Ramsey last August.
But after viewing even a few small portions of the virulent videos, only two things seem very clear: The deeply disturbed Cho admired the pair that carried out the Columbine massacre, calling them “martyrs.”
And he was a cauldron of hatred and rage, much of which seemed to be directed against the wealthy. But the source of that anger may never be fully understood.
Here are a few excerpts from the diatribes and the final thoughts of North America’s worst ever mass school shooter.
“You have vandalized my heart, raped my soul.”
“You had a hundred billion chances and ways to have avoided today. But you decided to spill my blood. You forced me into a corner and gave me only one option. The decision was yours. Now you have blood on your hands that will never wash off.”
“I didn’t have to do it. I could have left. I could have fled. But now I am no longer running. If not for me, for my children and my brothers and sisters that you (expletive). I did it for them.”
“You just loved to crucify me. You loved inducing cancer in my head, terror in my heart and ripping my soul all this time.”
“You have vandalized my heart, raped my soul and torched my conscience. You thought it was one pathetic boy’s life you were extinguishing. Thanks to you, I die like Jesus Christ, to inspire generations of the weak and the defenseless people.”
“Do you know what it feels like to be spit on your face and have trash shoved down your throat? Do you know what it feels like to dig your own grave? Do you know what it feels like to have your throat slashed from ear to ear? Do you know what it feels like to be torched alive? Do you know what it feels like to be humiliated and be impaled upon a cross and left to bleed to death for your amusement?
You have never felt a single ounce of pain your whole life. And you want to inject as much misery in our lives because you can, just because you can. You had everything you wanted. Your Mercedes wasn’t enough, you brats. Your golden necklaces weren’t enough, you snobs. Your trust fund wasn’t enough. Your vodka and cognac weren’t enough. All your debaucheries weren’t enough. Those weren’t enough to fulfill your hedonistic needs. You had everything.”
“When the time came, I did it. I had to.”
“Martyrs like Eric and Dylan (the Columbine shooters).”
