Record Turnout For Annual Sporting Life 10Km Run

It was one of the first marathons to kick off the spring season in Toronto. Parts of Yonge Street from Lawrence to Adelaide were shut down to make way for the 9,200 runners that took part in the 11th Annual Sporting Life 10km run on Sunday morning. Organizers called it a record turnout as they were only expecting about 8,000 participants.

This year’s race helped raise money and awareness about a summer camp in Muskoka for kids with cancer, Camp Oochigeas. The live-in program up north allows kids needing chemotherapy or blood transfusions to get the medical attention they need without the hassles of having to go back and forth between treatments.

This was the second road closure of the weekend. The DVP remains a no-car zone while it undergoes spring repairs until Monday at 5am.
