It was a special Mother’s Day ceremony for the mom of a fallen youth worker. Joan Howard officiated as East York’s Eastview Park was renamed in memory of her son Kempton Howard on Sunday.
The 24 year old was murdered in 2003 outside his east end apartment. He was a respected leader and mentor who worked at Eastview Boys and Girls Club.
Joan remembered all the special things her son used to do for her, “He would have served me my breakfast, made me a nice little card and bought me a rose so this is a very special day.”
The park, located at 150 Blake Street, is now called Kempton Howard Park.
