Tomas Holmstrom scored twice and added an assist, but had to leave the game after taking a brutal hit by Duck defenceman Chris Pronger and forward Rob Niedermayer. He was cut on the head, but bravely returned early in the third after receiving stitches and assisted on Valtteri Filppula’s goal.
Wings goalie Dominik Hasek earned his 14th career playoff shutout after stopping all 29 shots he faced.
Johan Franzen and Todd Bertuzzi scored the other Detroit goals.
