Highway 427 Ramp Cramp Ends Earlier Than Expected

It was another one of “those days” for drivers heading out toward Pearson International Airport. Only this flight delay was on the road and not at the terminal. This time, it was a tractor trailer that flipped over on the northbound ramp to the 427 from the westbound Gardiner Expressway that created all the problems. All drivers who were heading west on the Gardiner and trying to get to the northbound 427 were being forced to divert around Sherway Gardens for a time.

The giant roadblock lasted several hours and created a huge back-up for motorists approaching both highways. The overturned truck began leaking brake fluid and diesel, further complicating the clean-up. They managed to right the rig after several hours and tow it away, and while they were predicting the closure would last into the rush hour, quick work and some good luck led to the mess being fixed just after 4pm. There were no injuries to anything but traffic, and there’s no word on what caused the mishap.

But it wasn’t the only traffic clogging mishap. Officials are investigating an accident that temporarily put the westbound lanes of the 407 off limits from Airport Road to Torbram. The crash took place around 2pm Monday and it was a bad one – a pick-up truck, a tractor trailer and three other cars were all involved in the major mess. It’s not clear what caused this one either, but incredibly the injuries were only minor. Two people were taken to hospital with complaints that aren’t believed to be serious.
