Paris Hilton Begins Jail Sentence

Socialite Paris Hilton will be living in decidedly less posh surroundings than she’s used to for the next three weeks, after she checked in to Los Angeles County jail to start her sentence for violating probation in a booze-related reckless driving case.

The hotel heiress will serve her time at the Century Regional Detention Facility eight kilometres from downtown Los Angeles. Though she was sentenced to 45 days she’ll likely serve only about half of that because state laws call for shorter sentences for good behaviour. Hilton, 26, appeared at the MTV Movie Awards hours before showing up at the all-female facility to begin her sentence and admitted she was feeling apprehension about it.

“I am trying to be strong right now,” Hilton said. “I’m really scared but I’m ready to face my sentence.”

In January Hilton, whose mug shot is seen above, pleaded no contest to a reckless driving charge from the previous fall and was sentenced to 36 months probation. That same month she was pulled over and informed by police that she was driving on a suspended licence, at which point the Simple Life star apparently signed a document agreeing that she would not drive. Then, in February, Hilton was pulled over again for driving and it was at that point that she was charged with violating her probation.

What will Hilton’s time in jail be like?
