Devil Rays Throttle Jays

There were no miraculous rallies this time.

On Tuesday night the Toronto Blue Jays clawed their way out of a deep hole with six runs in the bottom of the ninth to edge the Tampa Devil Rays 12-11.  But a night later, the magic just wasn’t there.  This time the Jays fell behind, and they stayed there, falling to the D-Rays 6-2.

“It would have been nice for us to do what we did (Tuesday),” said Blue Jays centre fielder Vernon Wells.

“Obviously, it wasn’t in the cards for us. I don’t know if they made pitches when they needed to or we just didn’t do a good enough job of getting the job done in situations. It’s frustrating, obviously, for everybody. Hopefully, we don’t make those mistakes (Thursday).”

Toronto starter Tomo Ohka, who made his first start since May 26, gave up 10 hits in just 3 1/3 innings, botching a chance to extend the blue bird’s winning streak to a season-high four games.

Tampa starter Scott Kazmir picked up the win.
