Highway 89 was shut in both directions near Alliston for five hours following a serious two-vehicle collision Tuesday.
The OPP closed the roadway between 7th Line and Industrial Parkway after a car crashed into a dump truck. One man was airlifted to Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie with what officials said were non-life threatening injuries.
“Plastic was flying everywhere,” said witness Robert Rawn. “I seen the headlight…bouncing on the road. The truck bounced up over top of him.”
It’s the latest in a string of major collisions to hit Ontario highways. On Monday a truck driver was killed after he swerved to avoid cars on Highway 400. His rig ended up on its side in a ditch. The crash was blamed on street racing and three people have since been charged.
That accident happened in the same area as a Saturday crash on the 400 that sent 11 people to hospital.
“We have the last three days have just been unbelievable in terms of crashes,” said Const. Harry Lawrenson “Driver error in some cases, and in some, like this one (Tuesday) we’re not sure, but yeah, we’re just have to get that message out there for people to slow down.”
