Texas Ranger Sammy Sosa blasted numerous homeruns for the Chicago Cubs over the years, but on Wednesday night he launched the most memorable one against his old team. Sosa’s 600th career homer came against the Cubs, making him only the fifth member of the elusive 600-club.
The other players who have reached the elusive milestone include Hank Aaron, Barry Bonds, Babe Ruth, and Willie Mays.
“It was something that cannot be explained,” Sosa said. “Getting my 600th against the Chicago Cubs, and my first team (was) the Texas Rangers. It’s like everything clicked. My emotions, I don’t know what they are.”
Sosa played for the Cubs from 1992-2004, hitting 545 during that prolific stretch.
“It was a good moment. He should be proud of it,” Cubs manager Lou Piniella said after his team’s 7-3 loss. “I wish he would have done it in a losing effort but it’s a tremendous feat and he should enjoy the moment.”
