Amusement Park Terror Shuts Down Drop Zone

Canada’s Wonderland’s most infamous ride, Drop Zone, has been shut down. The 230 foot ride, that can be seen far beyond the park’s limits, closed Friday after a gruesome accident on a similar ride in Kentucky.

It was a worst-case scenario real-life event. A 13-year-old girl’s feet were severed just above the ankles as she rode the Superman Tower of Power ride at a Six Flags amusement park. She was taken to hospital but her name has not been released and neither has her condition.

The Tower of Power lifts thrill seekers 177 feet in the air, then in a move similar to Drop Zone, drops back to the ground, reaching speeds of 87 kilometres per hour.

It was unclear at what point during the ride that the accident occurred, but nevertheless, Cedar Fair Entertainment has shut down drop-tower rides at five amusement parks, including Canada’s Wonderland.
