The Blue Jays were bound to lose eventually, and after one of their longest winning streaks in recent memory, eventually came Friday night in the form of a hard-fought 4-3 loss to the Chicago White Sox.
Jermaine Dye homered early and Juan Uribe hit a go-ahead two-run double in the sixth inning to fuel the White Sox offence, while Reed Johnson did his best to keep pace for the Blue Birds, matching a career-high with four hits.
Still, the five-game win streak came to a close for Toronto , who couldn’t give former Sox slugger Frank Thomas a win against his former team. The Big Hurt bashed 448 career home runs with Chicago , and hit career dinger No. 500 in the Windy City . The Toronto designated hitter received a standing ovation before his at-bat in the second inning.
On the hill, Jays starter Josh Towers continued to build on a string of strong starts, but just didn’t get the run support needed, and thus fell to 5-7 on the season after allowing four runs on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings.
