Two Children Hit By Boat On Rice Lake

An afternoon spent swimming on a warm summer’s day turned to worry and shock Saturday afternoon.
When Dave Witherspoon and Lance Hamilton noticed a boat towing an inner tube with kids in it heading straight towards their vessel, they immediately began honking, shouting and yelling at the driver.
“When I looked over to my left, there was a boat coming straight at me,” says Hamilton. “He finally hears us about 50 feet away, turns sharply to the left and puts nothing but torque on the tube. The kids hit the side of the boat.”
Witherspoon immediately jumped overboard to get the children, an eight-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl, both of them floating face down in the water.
