Cops Find Getaway Car Hit By Bullets After Shots Fired During Brinks Robbery Attempt

A scene out of the Wild West unfolded on the streets of Toronto Friday after a Brinks armoured truck security guard exchanged gunfire with a would-be bandit during a botched robbery attempt.

Police rushed to the area of Dufferin and Steeles, after reports of shots being fired.  The crime scene itself is at Dolomite and Magnetic Dr., not far from G. Ross Lord Park. It’s a mostly industrial area, although there are some plazas nearby.

Witness Michael Shribman heard the weapons discharging, but didn’t imagine at the time that something so ominous was taking place.

“From here it was like pop, pop, pop,” he recalls.  “I thought it was kids playing outside.”

Police believe one of the suspects may have been hit after finding what they believe to be the getaway car, a green van, littered with bullet holes.

“It is possible (that one of the suspects was injured) and we are trying to confirm that,” said P.C. Michael Palermo.

Witnesses saw three men running from the van into a parking lot across the street where they apparently hopped into another vehicle and took off.

No weapons have been recovered.

One of the guards has a slight gash on his head, but he’s otherwise okay.

Police are still scouring the area for shell casings, trying to gather crucial clues.  No suspect descriptions have been released.
