Roy Halladay pitched a gem but the Toronto Blue Jays still managed to botch a late lead after the Detroit Tigers rallied with four runs in the ninth inning to beat the blue birds 5-4 Monday night.
Magglio Ordonez drove in Placido Polanco to complete the comeback.
Halladay was just one out away from his eighth complete game when the Tigers finally got to him with a pair of singles by Sean Casey and Brandon Inge. Manager John Gibbons then sent him to the showers in favour of Casey Janssen, who promptly gave up a two-run single to make it 4-3.
Polanco then hit a single and Gary Sheffield walked to load the bases and set the stage for Ordonez, whose fourth hit of the night closed the show.
The Tigers have now won four of their last five and climbed within 3 1/2 games of idle New York in the AL wild-card race.
