Pellet Gun Prompts Brampton High School Lockdown

A Brampton high school was put under lockdown Thursday after a teen was spotted inside the building carrying a gun, which turned out to be a pellet gun.
Students were quickly secured inside St. Edmund Campion Secondary School on Brisdale Drive and another nearby school was on heightened alert. Authorities arrived on the scene within minutes of receiving the initial call.
“We immediately dispatched uniformed and tactical officers to the school,” said Peel Police Sgt. Taufic Saliba.
“A search was begun at the school and an investigation was commenced a short time later, a male was arrested a short distance away from the school … no shots were fired and we’re also happy to report that there are no injuries.”
Police recovered a pellet gun during their investigation and arrested a 17-year-old male student. He’s now facing a mischief and two weapons charges.
Just two weeks into the school year, the incident has students and their parents understandably shaken.
“They have to do something, this is ridiculous. They need some sort of (metal) detector,” said one parent.
“It’s awful, we’re not even a week into this and already…you can’t send your kids to school anymore it’s terrible,” adds a concerned mom.
The teen will appear in court for a bail hearing on Friday.
