Caledon Crash Claims Second Victim

A serious crash in Caledon from earlier in the week has turned even more tragic for a GTA family.

Isabel Di Ceglie, 23, succumbed to her injuries in hospital Saturday night, just days after her 19-year-old sister Vanessa was killed in the same collision. The day of the accident was Isabel’s 23rd birthday.

The sisters had been travelling in a Honda Civic when it collided with a transport truck at the intersection of Mayfield and Airport Rds. at about 2:40pm Thursday. The impact was so strong it pushed the vehicle 50 metres up onto a nearby lawn, where a memorial to the fallen duo now sits.

Vanessa died at the scene, while Isabel was transported to St. Michael’s Hospital downtown in critical condition. She held on for two days but doctors weren’t able to save her.

“They were respectful, they were good girls, they had so much going for them,” the girls’ aunt, Maria Zenelle said.

“My sister has lost two kids … not one, two, and we are burying two people. They did everything together, they studied together, they went to school together, so they’re going to be together now in heaven.”

The truck driver involved wasn’t hurt. Police say it’s possible charges will be laid in the crash.
