Getting A Leg Up

A North Carolina man that bought a vintage barbecue at an auction probably thought about all the things the original owners once cooked on the grill, but it’s unlikely he was even close to prepared for what he found inside it.

Police in Maiden, North Carolina, say the man got quite a surprise when he opened the smoker, when what he thought was a piece of wood wrapped in paper turned out to be an amputated human leg.

After the shock wore off, he contacted investigators who contacted the people that rented the storage space where the smoker had been left. There, a woman explained her son had his leg amputated after a plane crash and kept it following the surgery.

Police say the leg’s owner plans to reclaim it. No word on whether the barbecue’s new owner will lend a hand in its return.
