Hampton Vows To Fight On As NDP Leader

Howard Hampton is a patient man.  And he’s more than willing to wait and fight until the NDP makes more significant gains then they did on Wednesday night.

Hampton won his northern Ontario riding of Kenora-Rainy River, but his party didn’t quite make the inroads he was hoping for.  Regardless, he’s determined to stick it out until the tide turns Orange.

“This is never a sprint,” he said Wednesday night.  “This is very much a long distance race. You don’t just run in one race, you do it two, three times and you will be rewarded.”

Hampton has insisted the 2007 election won’t be his last.

“You have put your trust in me ever since 1987, and I cannot say thank you enough for that. All I can do is to say is that I’m going to continue to work as hard as I can, I’m going to continue to do what I can to earn that trust.”

“We increased our popular vote significantly tonight, significantly across the province. And we’re going to send more New Democrats to Queen’s Park and some of them are very youthful and I look forward to the opportunity to work with them.”
