Spears Turns Herself In To Police

Britney Spears was at a Los Angeles police station Monday to answer to hit and run charges stemming from an August incident.

The pop singer turned herself in at about 9pm and was fingerprinted and photographed before she left 45 minutes later. Officer Mike Lopez described Spears as “fine, cooperative.”

“She did her business and came out,” he said.

On August 6, Spears was filmed striking another vehicle while turning into a parking spot in Studio City. She apparently checked out the damage to her own car before leaving the scene. The driver of the other vehicle, Kim Robard-Rifkin, filed a police report in connection with the incident three days later.

Spears had been instructed to visit the police station for booking ahead of a court date on October 25. She also faces a charge related to driving without a valid licence.

Wearing sunglasses to conceal what she said was a case of pinkeye, Spears told reporters outside the station that the process went smoothly and that the officers “were nice.”

The 25-year-old has had a spate of legal issues to deal with in recent months. She was forced to give up custody of her two sons to ex-husband Kevin Federline two weeks ago, as the justice in the case expressed concern over the singer’s alcohol and drug use. She was instructed to undergo regular drug testing.

Spears appealed the custody order last week and was awarded one overnight stay with her children per week, provided the visits were monitored.
