YouTube Launches Cdn. Site

It’s either good news or bad news depending on how you view the current culture, but YouTube now has a Canadian address. The world’s most famous video sharing site officially “opened” its web door in this country Tuesday, and while you’ll still be able to look for everything the American/International site offers, this one promises to have a distinctly Canuck flavour.

Videos highlighting Canadian contributions will show up as “top favourites” and “recommended content” on the site, to try to give Great White Northerners added exposure. And visitors will be able to see content provided by deals with the CFL and SONY BMG Canada, among others.

“We’re very excited to bring a local version of YouTube to Canada, and are committed to continuing to improve the YouTube experience for our Canadian users,” vows co-founder Chad Hurley in a statement. “Our goal is to satisfy the unique needs of the local users and to further strengthen Canada’s vibrant YouTube community.”
