Brenda Batisse will remain in jail in Sudbury, after a five day delay for a bail hearing. The 29-year-old is accused in the abduction of a baby girl from a local hospital on November 1st that sparked a province-wide Amber Alert and sent cops hunting a suspect and a newborn for hundreds of kilometres.
The baby was eventually located in Kirkland Lake, some 300 kilometres away. It was safe and cops hauled in Batisse and her boyfriend. He was later released without charge, but she’s been in jail ever since and is facing accusations of kidnapping and endangering the life of a child.
Cops contend Batisse is the woman caught on hospital security video dressed like a staff member and carrying a baby out of one of the wards. There’s still no motive for the alleged kidnapping, but family members have stated the accused may have suffered a miscarriage right before the incident.
Her lawyer plans to appeal the denial of her bail.
