Karla Homolka Leaves Canada For New Home: Report

She’s the most reviled woman in all of Canada. But now it appears she may not be in Canada any more. A French language TV network in Quebec claims convicted school girl killer Karla Homolka has left the country, possibly for good.

TVA reports the notorious murderer, who helped husband Paul Bernardo kill her own sister and two young teens, has relocated to the Antilles in the West Indies. Homolka was the focus of intense scrutiny in 2005 when her 12-year prison sentence finally expired. There was grave concern about where she could live and go, but attempts to put a legal leash on her actions were ultimately unsuccessful.

Because she paid her debt to society, there are no restrictions preventing her from travelling or leaving the country and her notoriety here made it almost impossible for her to live without scrutiny, harassment or disdain.

Tim Danson, the longtime lawyer for the families of victims Leslie Mahaffy and Kristen French, is surprised her new country would allow her to come in but concedes it’s their choice. There had long been fears that the killer would try and return to St. Catharines, the scene of her infamous crimes and run into family members of the people she killed. Her absence means that’s no longer likely to happen.

Homolka has mostly been out of the spotlight over the last few years, but she resurfaced briefly when it was learned she’d had a child after marrying a man following her release in Quebec. She reportedly decided to flee her infamous past so her now one-year-old could lead a ‘more normal life.’
